8.10 BUY USED AND SECONDHAND COMPUTERS

If you only need to do simple word processing, data base entry or create a spread sheet, an old computer will do fine. DOS computers are often much faster than many Windows based machines for basic tasks.

There is a glut of old computers right now. You can get a machine that sold for over $1000 just a few years ago for almost nothing. This machine should last for years. Standard DOS programs can create data that it completely compatible with Windows such as text, dbase files, and lotus spread sheets.

==Ask at the local computer shop.

==Ask around, perhaps a friend has an old machine he or she no longer needs.
