lifestyle. You will not be able to accomplish this quickly. Over the next year plan on
making your home much tighter, inquire about Time of Use at your local utility, replace
old appliance with new energy efficient ones and put new energy efficient light bulbs
around the home. The reduction in cost will be significant.
4.0.1 FREE AND LOW COST SERVICES FROM YOUR POWER COMPANY
Call
your electric company. You might be surprised at what they have to offer.
Here
are some examples: time-of-use rates, TOU (see below); load management payments to you for
shutting down your hot water heater or air conditioner for brief periods; low interest
loans for insulation and storm windows or for buying a heat pump; rebates for heat pumps;
a free or low cost energy audit of your home; rebates for fluorescent lights; free hot
water tank insulation blanket (some even install it for you); free hot water pipe wraps;
free low-flow shower heads; free portable electric heaters; an equal payment plan that
gives you a regular bill each month based on an estimate. In addition ask about possibly
free booklets, pamphlets and other helpful information.
