AUTOMOBILE AND HOME REPAIR - EXAMPLES OF DO-IT-YOURSELF SAVINGS - DIY
==
Alter clothes you already own or find at the thrift store.
==
Be your own building contractor when building a house.
If
you have management skills and know the legal steps involved, you can be your own general
contractor and save %10-%15 on the cost of a house. In fact, you will probably double
those savings because you won't need to borrow that money and pay interest over the next
30 years.
==
Car repair.
It's
just smart to know some fundamental things about your car so you won't get stuck
somewhere. Learn to do the simple things first such as change the oil or replace a
taillight. After you have completely mastered the basics, try something more complex. Car
repair is much easier if you always buy the same kind or car or at least a car made by the
same manufacturer. This is because most companies tend to build things alike. (See example
of Dodge Dart on pg. 11.)
==
Attempt home repair.
Depending
on your skills you might try plumbing, carpentry, roofing, installing sheet rock,
insulating, wiring, masonry, or painting.
