  1. Make your own microwave dinners.

Make a large one-pot meal and freeze the rest for later.

  1. Grow your own herbs in a sunny window.
  2. Have a garden either in a plot or in a container.
  3. Pick vegetables and fruit at a "pick your own" farm.
  4. Can, freeze or preserve food.
  5. Make your own beer or wine.
  6. Make your own soda, e.g. root beer.
  7. Make your own cheese or yogurt.
  8. Try "investment cooking," a system worked out by Woman's Day magazine. Spend at most four hours preparing and freezing food on a Sunday that will last your family the entire week. Refer to back issues of Woman's Day.
  9. Make your own cleaning supplies or personal care items

EXAMPLE OF DIY - SAVE ON THE COST OF BEEF - CUT YOUR OWN SUBPRIMALS

Cut your own beef and save a bundle. "Subprimals" are large sections of beek that you can cut yourself into much smaller portions.

Ask your butcher how to cut boneless subprimals into smaller sections that you can store and freeze.
