INCANDESCENT DIMMER SWITCH, HOUSE ELECTRICAL HARDWARE

INCANDESCENT
DIMMER SWITCH, electrical hardware

Description: This is a rectangular switch with any of three actions: a turn knob, a toggle, or a lever that rides in a slot (the last type is best).

Buying information: Dimmer switches raise or lower the level of light. Aside from the distinctive ambience provided by a dimmer, lowering light levels lowers the wattage used. They are commonly available up to 660 watts.

How-to hints: When installing a dimmer switch, make sure the power is off. Aside from safety, if you install it while the power is on and the switch is hit by a surge of electricity -- a common occurrence when connecting and reconnecting -- it will destroy the switch. Instructions for installation are on the package.
