STANDARD CARTRIDGE FUSE
Description: This fuse has a shotgun-shell shape, with metal caps on the ends. Buying information: Cartridge fuses are used less in the home than are the plug-in types. They are designed for handling large power demands -- above 30 amps and 220 volts -- for such things as appliances and air-conditioning equipment, where a separate fuse is required to control a particular appliance circuit. There are two range sizes: 10 amps to 30 amps and 35 amps to 60 amps. How-to hints: The cartridge fuse is installed between clips on the fuse box and works like any other fuse: inside is a linkage that will melt if the current is too high. To remove the fuse safely, obtain a cartridge fuse puller. This is a pliers-like tool made of hard plastic with which the barrel of the fuse can be grasped and the fuse pulled easily.
