TYPE S PLUG-IN FUSE
Description: This consists of two parts: one looks like a standard plug-in fuse; the other is a threaded adapter. Buying information: The advantage of this type of fuse is that it is tamperproof. While other plug-in fuses are interchangeable because they have the same size screw-in bases -- and therefore a higher amperage can be used than is advisable -- a type S fuse cannot be compromised. For example, if an adapter for a type S I5-amp fuse is screwed in place, it will accept only a 15-amp fuse -- none other. Amperages are stamped on the tops of the fuses, which are also color coded. These fuses make sense for people who own rental property, because someone unfamiliar with the electrical system cannot inadvertently use a replacement fuse of the wrong capacity and compromise protection.
