== Read the label

The label should tell you how to clean the garment. Is it going to be too much trouble?

== Dry cleaning

A rule of thumb is that you will pay as much for the dry cleaning as for the garment. Is it worth it?

== Use cold water

Most laundry detergents today work well in cold water. A cold water wash vs. warm water will save you about $100 a year in energy costs plus your clothes will last longer.

== Don't over dry

Don't run the clothes dryer longer than necessary. Save energy and your clothes. Over drying will cause clothes to shrink and become thinner (that's where all that lint comes from).

== Hand wash instead of dry cleaning could save a lot

Test wash a patch of material before you throw the entire garment into the sink.
