TERM: UNLIMITED LONG DISTANCE EXAMPLES OF SERVICES: MCI Neighborhood, Powernet Global Unlimited, Talk America Unlimited DEFINITION: For one flat fee you can talk long distance for as long as you like. These are 'dial-around' services so that you will need to input an access number. Many services bundle local and long distance together in one package. Some include unlimited calling to international locations at over 30 countries. Since these are dial-around services you may not have to switch you long distance carrier - you just won't need to use it. Many packages include extras such as caller ID and call waiting. HOW TO CALL: Before placing a call, you will need to to dial an access number followed by the number you wish to call. COST: Plans typically range in the $29.99 to $59.99 per month. BILLING/PAYMENT: Typically you receive one monthly bill which can be paid via a credit card (which most companies prefer now) or via check. EXAMPLE: A popular plan includes local and long distance plus caller ID, calling waiting and 3-way calling for $49.99 a month. COMMENTS: The consumer is paying about $30 a month for unlimited long distance. Unless you talk over 17 hours a month every month, a prepaid long distance service could be much cheaper. |
