TERM: PREPAID LONG DISTANCE|
EXAMPLES OF SERVICES: TEL3ADVANTAGE, ONESUITE, ENJOY PREPAID
DEFINITION: The user sets up an account and pays before making calls. The user is then given an 800 number to call (it's a dial-around service), an account number and a pin. Many of these services have online management plus a toll free number for customer service. Because the account is prepaid, the price is often much lower per minute than most other services because costs are lower. The service does not have to worry about not being paid, for example, whereas with standard long distance delinquent accounts are a major problem. Since the service is "dial-around," the user does not need to switch long distance companies.
HOW TO CALL:
LOCAL PHONES: Phones that are registered with the service, which generally can be anywhere in the country, are often automatically recognized and do not require entering a pin or an account number before making a call. Calling the service can be simplified by simply entering the 800# to call the service into the speed dial memory of the phone. With each call the customer is informed as to the minutes remaining and/or the dollar amount in the account.
OTHER PHONES: Making a call from a payphone or a friend's house or on the road requires that the user call the usual 800 number, enter the account number (usually your home phone number) plus a pin. With each call the customer is informed as to the minutes remaining and/or the dollar amount in the account.
COST: Typically the cost is a flat rate of from 1.9 - 3.9 cents/minute for phones with local access 2.9 - 6.9 cents/minute from other phones. Some plans may charge a monthly maintenance and other fees.
BILLING/PAYMENT: Calls from all phones are billed to the same account. Online management means that a record of all calls from different phones can be accessed online. Many of these services can be recharged automatically so that when the dollar amount in the account goes below $10 (example) the account is automatically recharged via the credit card. The user can choose to manually recharge the account as needed, choose the number of recharges per month, and also the amount to recharge each time.
EXAMPLE: Tel3Advantage charges 1.9 cents/minute with local access, 2.9 cents/minute for calls from any other phone. The line quality is excellent. Online management features mean that the user can view all calls from all phones, add/edit/delete up to 99 speed dial numbers, register up to 10 phones that will be automatically recognized.
COMMENTS:At Savvy-Discounts.com we think that these services are the best deal in long distance because you pay a flat rate from all phones only for the minutes you use and you only need one account for multiple phones, even those away from home. Generally these service offer the lowest per minute rates because they are prepaid and can discount their rates as a result.
