SHELF SUPPORT
Description: This is an L-shaped piece with a small round projection coming from the back of the top part of the L. Buying information: Shelf supports may be plastic or metal. They are mounted in the drilled holes made in kitchen cabinets, and when the shelves are laid on top, the weight locks them in place. How-to hints: Proper installation of shelf supports depends on drilling holes 1/4 inch apart in an absolutely straight line, something that is not very easy to do. It is best to use a jig (template) with previously drilled holes for proper hole location and alignment. This can easily be made from a one-by-two board: Just mark the holes needed and use an ordinary electric drill to drill them, or, better, use a drill press. Shelf supports are not especially good for supporting heavy weights, such as bookshelves. Plastic supports will break, and metal ones, if set into anything but hardwood, may sag within their holes, enlarging the holes so that the supports pull out. |
