STAPLE, NAILS

Description: This has a U-shaped configuration with two sharpened points. Common sizes are 7/8 inch to 1 1/4 inch, though larger sizes are available. Also available are square-topped staples, which are blued.

Buying information: Steel staples are used for fencing, holding wire to a fencepost, or anchoring armored cable (BX). Square-topped staples are good for securing screen wire.

How-to hint: Drive staples with a hammer.
