STANDARD ALUMINUM GUTTERDescription: This is available in various configurations and in 10-foot lengths, and up to 32 feet long at factories that specialize in making gutter. Ten-foot lengths are .027 inch thick, while the longer lengths are a beefier .032 inch. Available in various colors. Buying information: Aluminum gutter is used like any other gutter, but if the lengths are only 10 feet, connections will have to be made at the joints. Longer lengths can be unwieldy to transport and handle. Some companies sell gutter that is thinner than .027 inch. This is known in the trade as "Reynolds Wrap" and should be avoided. How-to hints: Install aluminum gutter using a blind rivet gun. It allows you to assemble sections and install end caps much more easily than by using screws. Assembled gutters should be pitched slightly downward toward the downspouts: to make sure pitch is correct, the gutter should be pitched off a level line, never the house. Houses look level, but almost all are tilted slightly. |
