GARAGE DOOR HARDWARE INTRODUCTION
To
many people, fixing a garage door seems like a difficult proposition, perhaps one best
left to a professional. But, in fact, the average do-it-yourselfer can fix a garage door.
It is usually just a matter of replacing broken or worn parts.
Parts
should be replaced as soon as there is any sign of trouble. Left alone, the breakdown of
one part, say, a spring, can lead to the breakdown of another. More than this, though,
once a door is broken it is usually in the down position -- and garage doors are heavy,
weighing 100 pounds and more. It is always much easier to fix when the door is still
working well enough to be in the up position.
Following
are the parts -- in the order they normally wear out -- that can be replaced on a typical
garage door.
