CEILING FIXTURE, LIGHTS

incandescent lamp
holder, electrical hardware

Description: This can have many different shapes, but it usually comes with three wires.

Buying information: In this case there is simply no substitute for taking a look at what's in the store.

How-to hints: Mounting ceiling fixtures is usually done one of two ways. If there is an existing joist, the box can be screwed in place; then add a shaped, holed device called a hickey, which screws onto the joist. Screw the fixture to it. If there is no joist at the desired location, fit a crossbar piece as a bridge between the nearest joists and screw the fixture to that. If you come up against a particular hanging problem, go to an electrical supplies dealer and ask for help. If you have to improvise, make sure that whatever you use, it is strong enough to hold up the fixture. Some weigh 60 or 70 pounds.
