PENETRATING OIL, LUBRICANTS

Description: This is a very thin oil that looks like household oil.

Buying information: It is used to break down rust and corrosion that makes nuts, bolts, and the like difficult to loosen.

How-to hints: Most items yield to an application or two of penetrating oil. If not, use a propane torch to heat the object until cherry red, allow to cool until the redness disappears, then apply the penetrating oil. The heat and absorption by the surface of oil will make it highly likely that you can loosen the item. When using the propane torch make sure to keep the flame away from any flammable materials. If it still doesn't budge or you don't want to use heat on the item, give a couple of raps with a hammer; the vibration may break the rust bond.
