SINGLE-STRENGTH GLASS

Description: This comes in variously sized sheets 3/32-inch thick.

Buying information: It is good for ordinary windows around the house.

How-to hints: Cutting glass is not simple, and it can be cut professionally and cheaply. If not done professionally, a number of techniques must be observed when cutting:

Use a sharp glass cutter.

== Dip the cutting edge in kerosene before cutting to help lubricate the cutting action.

== Draw the cutter all the way across the glass in one uninterrupted stroke; do not stop.

== Break the glass by applying pressure at the end of the score line.

It also helps if the glass is warmed. The glass should also be new (old glass gets brittle). Warm the glass in the sun; direct heat is not likely to be uniform enough.

If the first score is not completed properly, turn the glass over and try from that side.
