CONTACT CEMENT, ADHESIVES

Description: This is amber-colored liquid.

Buying information: Contact cement bonds instantly -- on contact. It is the glue for adhering plastic laminate to counter-tops and other surfaces. It comes in two versions. Water-based, and solvent-based. The latter is available in low-flashpoint and high-flashpoint types. The high-flashpoint type is used where there is a danger of explosion (contact cement vapors are flammable). Most installers do not have high regard for water-based contact cement. There is also a nonflammable solvent-based type.

How-to hints: Apply cement to both surfaces; wait until the adhesive gets tacky. And then press them together. The main idea is not to rush to press the pieces together. Make sure they are dry to the touch. If you can place a piece of paper on the surface and lift it without it’s sticking. The surface is ready. For faster easier spreading of contact cement, use a paint roller.
