HOW TO FIND FREE SOFTWARE ON THE WEB:
The key word you are looking for is "freeware."
When you see the word freeware, it should mean that the software is completely free no strings attached. You can use it forever and never pay a fee.(A few direputable companies will try to say their software is freeware for 30 days and after that you must pay a fee. BUT that is NOT freeware that is shareware, a different breed of cat altogether).
So in a search of a site or a category of software within a site, look for the word freeware, anything else will give you mixed results. While a search for the word "free" may also yield some free software, you will also come across dozens that are "free to try for 30 days, after which you must register and pay for it." This is typically how "shareware" is listed.
PLAN A:
Go to one of these sites and do a search for the word "freeware."
Freeware means that it is free and there is never a charge. Occasionally a
program is mislabeled so pay attention.
PLAN B:
Bring up a page of programs within a certain category such as bookmarking programs or html
editor programs. Then use the find feature in your browser to find the word "freeware"
Especially with freeware, I suggest you stay with the top rated programs. Most sites rate programs with stars or cows (TuCows), or ducks (Nonags) etc. Go for the top two levels of stars (cows, etc.) ratings.
