9.0 CLOTHING SCAMS; DISCOUNT CLOTHES AND CLOTHING.

== Know what clothes cost

If you've shopped around, you'll know what clothes generally go for, and won't be fooled by inflated "regular" prices and "huge" discounts from those "regular" prices.

== Bogus discount stores

Some stores give a false appearance. You might find every tag marked down by hand two times along with a disorganized "clearance" look. These stores could be selling badly made merchandise at inflated prices while pretending to offer you a great discount. Buyer beware.

A survey showed that one third of stores that claimed to discount clothing were using inflated "regular" prices and misrepresenting the discount they offered.

Never, never buy clothing based on the discount you think you are getting (see above). Make sure the price is reasonable no matter what the tag says.

== Women are charged for alterations and more for dry cleaning

If you buy from a store that charges women for alterations but does not charge men, then protest. This simply is not fair. Many stores will do the alterations for free if you speak up.

The same goes for dry cleaning. Why does a blouse cost more to clean than a man's shirt? Ask why. Insist on the same price for the same kind of item.

== Why do men's clothes cost less and last longer?

There may be a simple explanation. Men's clothes do not change very much from year to year while women's clothes change frequently according to fashion. Companies must spend mega-bucks creating new clothing lines for women. However, with men's clothes that same money can be used for quality construction and fabrics.
