6.0 AUTOMOBILE BARGAINING AND NEGOTIATING TIPS
==
Studies show that women pay more for cars than men! They are simply dealing in an area
that is unfamiliar to them. Still if a woman does her homework as I have outlined in this
issue, there is no reason she can't drive home a real bargain.
==
NEVER buy a completely new car model the first year it's in production. There are always
problems. When you read glowing reviews about a new car line, wait until the next year to
consider it.
==
Don't buy a used car "AS IS" from a dealer. You will get a better price from an individual
who may be more familiar with the car's repair/maintenance history. A dealer may know
nothing, since he probably bought it at an auction.
==
Beware of odometer roll backs for used cars. If a late model, low mileage car looks worn
beyond its years, suspect odometer tampering.
==
Buy a new car at the end of the season. For example purchase a new car from the previous
year the following winter (e.g., a new 95 model in the winter of 96). The selection will
be limited as these models are "leftovers," but you'll get a great price (about a 5%
discount below the invoice+2% target price).
