4.0 SUPERMARKET AND GROCERY STORE BRANDS
PRIVATE LABELS, HOUSE AND INHOUSE BRANDS
About
24% on average. This is based on a national average of the store-brand savings for various
supermarket chains. That's well over $1000 per year for most families.
We
think buying store brands is the single best way for virtually everyone to save money
anywhere in the country no matter where they shop. See our detailed report on just how to
do this at:

4.0.2 HOW MUCH CAN STORE BRANDS REALLY SAVE YOU? - SUPERMARKET DISCOUNTS
In
April 1996 the local television station, WCTI in New Bern, North Carolina, asked me to
demonstrate that store brands were a lot less expensive than national brands. I gladly
accepted the challenge.
I
made a list of various products from each isle in the store: everything from hamburger
buns to ice cream, from frozen fruit juice to sliced cheese, from cereal to saltine
crackers.
I
went through the store with the reporter. She filled her cart with national brand products and I filled mine with store brands. All products were the same size and weight.
Here are some examples:
Product National Store
Brand Brand
Price Price
Saltines $1.49 $ .79
Burger Buns $1.19 $ .70
Orange juice $2.39 $1.29
Non-dairy creamer $2.39 $1.19
Tomato Sauce $ .89 $ .45
Ice Cream $2.69 $1.69
So how much did I save on 23
store-brand products?
23 national brands.............$45.61
23 store brands................$26.72
Savings (one week) = $18.89
Annual savings = almost $1000/year
